What cloth do I wear during a sled dog tour?
Packing list & tips
In this article, you will find a list of clothes and equipment, that keep you warm and well equipped during your sled dog adventure.
Packing list:
- Base layers: Moisture-wicking (synthetics or wool), no cotton
- Mid layers: Warm fleece or wool sweaters
- Outer layers: Wind- and waterproof jacket & pants (ski gear works well)
- Footwear: Insulated winter boots with removable inner liners
- Accessories: Warm hat, neck warmer, ski goggles/sunglasses, mittens + liners
- Extras: Headlamp, thermos flask, small backpack, high-SPF sunscreen
- For overnight tours: Expedition sleeping bag (-30°C/-40°C), hygiene items, towels
- Optional: Camera, power bank, hand/foot warmers
- Overalls, sleeping bags and winter shoes can be rented spontaneously on side (200 SEK/ week/item)
If you choose to bring your own winter boots, we recommend shoes with a removable liner. Sleeping bags should cover temperatures down to -30 degrees.
We use for ourself different layers of cloth to keep us warm. That way we can adjust our cloth quickly to the changing temperatures and circumstances of our trips. We recommend moisture-wicking layers as the bottom layer of clothing to keep as little moisture as possible directly on the body. Synthetic materials or animal wool are ideal for this. Cotton, on the other hand, should not be worn as the bottom layer, but can be used as layers in between.
Make sure your outermost layer is durable and doesn’t tear easily.
